Day One -
Joey arrived here at Moonwatch late last night, so he didn't get into my farm until early this morning. During my morning rounds I let him run around playing with the fishbowl in the living room. One of the first things I do with any new horse here at Moonwatch is get them used to the fishbowl so I can pose them easier.
Joey is a happy, active foal who enjoys running around. I haven't gotten his personality completely figured out yet but this is what I have figured out about him. Joey tends to be afraid of everything new, but soon after he knows what it is he makes up his mind on whether he likes it or not. He's got constant energy and hopefully I can put it to good use! Joey adores anything that is based off of the brush, like the hose, and will run right up next to you for it. After I brought out the hose he calmed down quite a bit!
Once I learned a bit about his personality, I realized that Joey is a perfect name for him! I don't really like Joey though, I love him. That is such a corny saying but it's true about Joey. He's got a loveable personality and the cutest face to boot. But I do think he's a little too hyper for me right now. I'm sure he'll grow out of a little bit of his hyperness as he grows up.
Throughout the week I'm going to be introducing him to Charles, another Arabian here at Moonwatch and possibly Arland too. We're going to work on halter showing and have a lot of fun in the process! Well for right now, I'm off to go play with him some more.
Towards the end of the day today, we began working on halter showing. Turns out so far he's a natural at it. I got a pretty darn good pose on the first shot I took of him posing. As the day came to an end I tucked him into his little stall for the night.
Day Two -
This morning started with what every morning needs, a good brushing! Joey seemed to enjoy this little bonding activity as he loved the hose yesterday. I laid out his feed for the morning and he sleepily ate it, I coudl tell we had a big day ahead of us. I decided we'd spend the morning at the beach together. The first thing Joey did? Fall in the sand! It was hilarious of the little guy, but expected since it's fluid and not solid like everything else. Then he surveyed all the shells on the beach HE found one shell that he just loved and ran around with it forever. Well at least until lunch time.
After lunch the tide started coming in and Joey was freaked out that the waves washed up so high! I was sure it was just a few odd ways instead of a premature tide. I didn't say anything about it though I was getting time to go home when Joey tripped over a seashell while running around.
Joey ran to get to his basket of toys I left out just for this experience! haha He was so x cited at what he saw in the basket that he just had to jump right into those toys.... LITERALLY.
Such a goofy picture. xD I was surprise afer I laid them all out on the floor that he chose the auto-rolling ball over two normal balls, the toy that is actually for horses, a big stuffed bear (he did play with it though), and a green show. I believe he chose it since he likes to bat things around with his hooves. Joey kept getting so angry at the auto-rolling ball for doing what it does best... rolling. I took it away after a long time of him playing with it since I didn't like seeing him mad. It was cute but frustrating <3 So he picked up his teddy and ran around with it for a bit while I picked up the other toys.
Once he woke up from his nap, which was too short in my opinion, we headed over to the salon to play with some paint! This didn't last long since I was fed up with the mess he was making but he has an odd choice in colors. Pink and red seemed to be his favorites to paint with. I had to spend a lot of time getting all of that paint caked in his fur our.
It was nearing bed time for the little guy, but it was time to start practicing today's halter lessons! Same deal as yesterday, working on alignment.I'll be back with the results when we finish. <3
For some odd reason I didn't take actual poses today... He did well though from what I can tell (: Still working on desensitization of the fishbowl but we're making progress.
Day Three -
Another day another brushing, right before brushing little Joey I fed him some nice breakfast of kibble-in-bluebowl. He didn't seem to enjoy it as much as the bucket of feed and he took forever to get to the darn thing to eat from it. By the time his hunger could have been at -10 he FINALLY started eating. It was time to introduce Joey to the other horses today, today's target was the quiet Arland, I'll save Charles for another day and just stick with the quiet horses.
Oh they really hit it off, big time! Arland and Joey became friends so fast for the short while I had them out together. Arland decided to fall asleep in the middle of playing and Joey just ran around him in circles. Before long Arland was up and Joey was asleep. The expression on Arland's face was priceless. I put Arland away to let Joey rest and once little Joey woke up I brought out a new buddy, Parthenon!
I was very surprised at Parthenon's reaction to the little guy, and I was also disappointed. Parthenon just sat. there. Completely ignoring Joey as Joey reared saying, "play with me!" and all Parthenon did was sit there. Parthenon was not being himself for some reason but I'm still unsure.
Flame came out to play with Joey instead and they also hit it off. While they were running around together, Joey ran into the fireplace and fell down. Flame decided it would be good tot urn around and watch Joey get up, Flame has his own son so maybe it's a fatherly instinct that humans have? I don't know, but it was adorable. The other horses in Joey's section of the ranch (p5) had to go off for some posing training so I took Joey to lunch.
Oddly enough it turns out that his favorite treat is bacon strips! Of all things for a horse to eat, Joey decides to eat a pig. His least favorite treat? Cotton candy, no shocker there. He also really loves cheese, but not apples. Apple slices? a bit better then a full apple. Turns out his favorite food is feed in a silver metal bucket! I haven't fried him with everything yet but so far it is.
Joey had a short nap and then it was out to help Herdrix in the garden! I even let him move the seeds to where he wanted them. Joey looked very concerned when they started to sprout, but once they blossomed he looked quite proud of himself. I decided to leave the garden there for all the other horses to see what Joey was so proud of.
We actually practiced jumping tonight instead of halter. I don't knwo if he likes jumping or not but I guess I'll find out int he up coming days. c: Little Joey is now tucked away in his stall awaiting tomorrow to come when he wakes up. <3
Day Four -
Today, again, started with a good breakfast! But unlike other days, it was bath day. bum, bum bum, BADUMMM. Actually, Joey liked it... a little too much. I've figured out that that is actually quite characteristic of him. Back to our day, we were supposed to go to the Asian Temple to meditate but it appears to be missing. so we went to Arabia instead. Maybe this was a good thing since Joey is an Arabian.
Oo when Joey found out he couldn't play the minigame because he was a horse he was so angry. He even tried to fool them into thinking her was a cat, unfortunately it didn't work out. They said that they were sorry but he was too large to play the minigame and we left Arabia. So much so for Joey discovering his roots. We headed home to play a little bit of dressup!
Turns out Joey could wear a lot of clothing... if he didn't have too many linez. xD It also turned out that feather headband + horse = the universe turns inside out. Put clothes on him? Shirts work all right, but with pants his but hangs out. LOL Lookin' like afool foal with your pants on the ground!
We practiced both again today, and yes I know that halter pose is a pixel off but it was just the first practice shot I too. c: I can't wait to begin showing with him! We actually probably won't do jumping but we'll try. Arabian racing? Such an unpopular sport, but maybe it's work a shot.
Day Five -
Another day another - wait, I'll spare you the repetition. This early morning brushing has become a daily routine for Joey and I and today he didn't want to give his most prized possession up to the evil toy case. When I finally wrestled the brush from he was visibly upset, but this quickly changed when I took out his favorite treat - bacon strips.
I can imagine him pointing to them and going, "Those things are gooood!" No I'm not crazy... it's just the heat. >.> Maybe I am crazy, who know. Back on topic, today's agenda had trick training as the first thing to do. uh-oh. I absolutely despise trick training unless the animal is a natural. Even without starting practice I could tell he is not a natural at tricks, he may be goofy but not on command.
oh-ho-ho, let me tell you about my surprise when he SAT on command. It was something I never thought could happen, but BAM. First try at a trick and I get a sit! Out of this goofy guy who can't sit still? yes! Second try, jumping to the side and ROLLING, woah. I'm seeing stars (hehe) at this point! Maybe I was wrong... SIDE STEP. whootwhoot. I need to lie down... no not you Joey! Needless to say anymore then I have, I definitely had fun with Joey trick training.
-insert pictures here that I forgot to take-
I wanted to relax after trick training Joey so I pulled out our little ole' music box to listen to some calming beats. Joey got a hold of the music box while I was resting and quickly changed to some funky up beat song before he danced around the screen like a maniac, aww he takes after his mom. Arland even came out again to join him and they chased each other around while the music played before they both fell asleep in a pile by the fire.
ohlawdy Joey found my stash of 'nip. He was even trying to hide it from me by playing that cutesy, "but mommm, I don't know where it is!" I was afraid what he'd be like drugged, so I let him keep it to play with. Not before long, he was digging in to the delicacy that is called catnip. Turns out he look around with one eyelid sagged down and then falls to the ground and writhes on the floor!
I like to call that one, washing the floor! Eventually he calmed down enough to begin halter practice. Today was ear practice and we got some pretty good ears on his poses, but since it isn't alignment day that part of the pose was crap. Soon, the little guy started to tucker out and he was falling over from being so tired. I worked him hard today, he deserves his rest. <3
Day Six -
Joey is an amazing horse but what I like the most about him. EVERYTHING <3 ut if I seriously had to pick a few things it would have to be his loveable nature and his derpiness, I may love him but no other pet does, guess he's just too young for love. Though he does enjoy watching the Saddlebred girls play with each other as they run around my pasture.
I have decided to show Joey in halter like the rest of my horses. We will keep practicing until we get it perfect but for now it's play time with the girls as a celebration for reaching day six with me... What a miracle foal to last that long.
Day Seven -
This past week has been amazing with little Joey here at Moonwatch. He's not so little anymore and is now deserving of a permanent home here at Moonwatch and in the show ring. All this practice for halter has been wonderful for posing, but for now we must wait until he's done growing. More practice and he'll be perfect!
Joey is now a chill, laid-back colt. He is still quite clumsy though, but it adds to his loveable personality. For you guys to improve this contest, I'd like to suggest adding another fun activity to do on day 6 and 7! To write day 6 and definitely today, it was a bit boring and I was longing for the adventure of the day like all the previous days. I loved this challenge as a whole and I enjoyed being a part of it. <3
